EA is now a private company
5 August 2026
Electronic Arts completed its $55 billion take-private acquisition on August 4, 2026, closing the largest all-cash leveraged buyout in history and ending the company's roughly 35-year run on the Nasdaq. The consortium, led by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund alongside Silver Lake and Jared Kushner's Affinity Partners, had received every required regulatory approval, including clearance under the EU's Foreign Subsidies Regulation, by July 30, with shareholders cashed out at $210 per share.
PIF ended up holding roughly 93.4% of the newly private company, rolling over its existing 9.9% stake and contributing fresh capital to reach that level, with Silver Lake holding about 5.5% and Affinity Partners about 1.1%. Andrew Wilson remains chief executive and the company keeps its Redwood City, California headquarters; the deal caps PIF's broader push to build a global position in games and interactive entertainment, giving it full ownership of franchises including EA Sports FC, The Sims, Battlefield and Apex Legends.
