Korea Investment Corporation opens Tokyo office to expand alternative investments

Korea Investment Corporation, the country's $232 billion sovereign wealth fund, is opening its first Tokyo office as it seeks to expand alternative investments in Japan, including private equity, hedge funds and private debt, alongside traditional equities and fixed income. The Tokyo base will be KIC's sixth overseas outpost after New York, London, Singapore, Mumbai and San Francisco, and comes as the fund points to structural reform and business restructuring among Japanese companies as a source of opportunity.
